Tiny caterpillars and eggs

Tiny caterpillars and eggs
Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, USA
September 11, 2006
Found these tiny bluish eggs on the upper surface of a Japanese knotweed leaf. The caterpillars had just hatched. Photo is from 2006, I was wondering if anyone might be able to id the family/genus/species?

Noctua pronuba would be my guess too, but definitely noctuid eggs in any case.

Thanks!
I never updated this past "moth" so thanks for the reminder. Actually *just* revisited the data set this is from over this past week, so it's oddly timely.
