Chinese Mantid - Tenodera sinensis - female

Chinese Mantid - Tenodera sinensis - Female
Wildwood Park; Radford, Virginia, USA
September 1, 2013
I am never sure whether I should label these as Mantis or Mantid?
I'd appreciate an ID, please.
When I first saw the critter, it was eating what appeared to be a fly of some sort. It next caught a silvery checkerspot. I really like these mighty hunters - they seem to have a lot of personality because of their head movement.

What a beauty
They are beautiful insects

Thanks, Bill!
I really do love these critters:)

Mantid/Mantis
Mantis refers to any member of the order Mantodea. Mantid refers to members of the family Mantidae. So, all mantids are mantises, but not all mantises are mantids.

Thanks,
John, for the species, gender, and info!
