1.5" Cicada Madness! - Diceroprocta viridifascia
Ormond Beach, Volusia County, Florida, USA
September 1, 2013
Size: 1.5"
Two images will be uploaded for this individual cicada. I believe this is perhaps Diceroprocta viridifascia, the Salt Marsh Cicada? This little fella took a liking to our back Florida room window (a large wall-like window) and repeatedly head butted it until it finally settled down long enough for these shots. Very similar to the beachside cicadas I've been assuming are Salt Marsh Cicadas. For the record, my home is 3.8 miles from the Atlantic, on the west side of the Intracoastal Waterway. In terms of foliage, it's a mixed bag: palm, pine, and oak. All kinds of stuff. Sorry to load up *yet another* cicada request. They're hopping in Volusia county right now! Thanks again for all your help ~
