Western Yellow Jacket? - Vespula alascensis

Western Yellow Jacket? - Vespula alascensis
Teton County, Wyoming, USA
August 18, 2013
Am I correct in assuming that there are western species of Yellow Jackets different from the Yellow Jacket species one might encounter east of the Mississippi River? If so, what might this species be? FYI, it was photographed along Jenny Lake at Grand Teton National Park. Thanks!

There is a Western Yellowjacket, Vespula pensylvanica
The many I've seen don't look like this, but I don't know them well enough to be sure yours isn't a queen or a different color form. I'm currently puzzling through an odd one I shot recently.
