Green worms on staghorn sumacs. - Sciota subfuscella

Green worms on staghorn sumacs. - Sciota subfuscella
HALIFAX, Nova Scotia, Canada
August 30, 2013
This worm and all its fellows are decimating my staghorn sumacs. It seems to start at the tips of the leaves and work its way up the leaf. It also makes a small webbing, but not as much as the tent caterpillar. I have a small grove of the sumacs and it's on them ALL! I don't know what it is or how to get rid of it. HEPL! :)

Sciota subfuscella
This is a phycitine pyralid, Sciota subfuscella, which apparently goes by the appropriate common name of the striped sumac leafroller.

you know the interesting amazig thing about most
moth larve is that they never really damage the food..at the end of summer they are eating leaves who will die in the fall. I cant id the caterpillars but I just thought id mention this little thing I have noticed..it may be unsightly but its natures way.

Green worms
Yes, I'm aware of all that and I agree, but I would like to have some leaves left for fall color to show on, and on the other hand, I still want to know what the damn things are so next year I can prepare for them. (evil cackle).
