Size: Wingspan about 55mm.
I am thinking that this is a Clavipes Aellopos Sphynx Moth! Well out it's range so I was stunned to see and photograph it it. Body length about 40mm

Aellopos identification
This Minnesota Aellopos is titan, not clavipes. On the forewing the shape of the outer band of pale spots is diagnostic, I believe: Check out the wing patterns for titan, clavipes, and fadus at this web page:

Note the prominence of the light intervenular spots in the post median area of the forewings.

Aellopos are known to stray north, but finding one in Minnesota is definitely uncommon! BugGuide also received submissions from Michigan and Massachusetts this year.
