Monarch chrysalis - Danaus plexippus

Monarch chrysalis - Danaus plexippus
Daphne, Baldwin County, Alabama, USA
September 1, 2013
Size: 2.5 in
Was so excited to have this chrysalis in our garden, but it was missing from the leaf the next day! Looked on the ground but did not see it. We also had 7 other caterpillars, one day later only saw 5, and now are all gone. Do they not all make a chrysalis on the milkweed? Currently, a week later, I have counted 14 NEW caterpillars, probly 1st or 2nd instar. Hope they stick around better than the last generation.
