Skipper caterpillar

Skipper caterpillar
Carter County, Kentucky, USA
September 4, 2013
Size: 1 inch
Staphylus hayhurstii, perhaps? Two of these were found crawling around on a sack that had potatoes and celery in it. Dunno if they came from it, or if they were on the porch and just crawled into the sack.

On Sept. 16th, I went out on my porch and found at least 25 crawling around, including 3 on a tall weed growing abundantly off to the side of the porch. I believe the plant is Chenopodium album, and that it's the most likely source of all the caterpillars.

You may well have the species correct,
but it could be another close relative, I don't know what they all look like.
