After review of the specimen - in hand - ....
After review of the specimen - in hand - all traits are more suggestive of canicularis.

These images are excellent examples of how pic's can be a bit misleading. The wing bow is not as pronounced in the specimen(s) as in the pic's.


Mr. Barrentine also reports most calls heard are congruent with cancularis.

North Dakota holds some interest for cicada specialists who are interested in possible hybridizations between eastern and western species of annual cicadas, Sharon. Like some birds, e.g., eastern and western meadowlarks, the songs of cicadas appear to be crucial in the identification of some cicadas, particularly in North Dakota. ;-)
