What is the name for this spider? - Kukulcania hibernalis
Columbia, South Carolina, USA
June 26, 2013
Size: 3 inch
Cleaned out a part of the attic leaving drop down door open a while. A few days later this large hairy spider shows up in the bathroom. I think its a wolf spider but it moved very slowly. Photo enlarged and width of wood is 2 inches wide. Thanks for the help.

Moved
Moved from ID Request. This is a female crevice weaver, most likely Kukulcania hibernalis. Spider size doesn't include the legs, the females are usually around 20 mm.

Crevice Spiders
I generally leave all spiders alone and remove the ones inside to the outside. There are alot of crevice webbing around the the outside of the windows and down the sides of the doorway entrances. My home is near the woods in a flood plain. Should I be concerned with grandchildren running in and out or messing with the webs? Reason I ask is my son was bitten two days ago by a brown recluse at his home (hospital confirmed) while getting toys out of the bushes. Sorry so lengthy and thank you for the ID.

Be a bit leary about hospitals
confirming recluse bites. Hospital personnel are very seldom qualified to confirm a recluse bite. Was the spider collected?

Anyway, no you don't need to be concerned about southern house spiders. In SC you really only need to watch out for black widows and maybe a recluse on the edge of its range.... the western part of SC being the edge of its range.
