Eumorpha
Kurt,

This is one of the Eumorpha sphinx moth. I'm not sure which one though. I'll check tonight at home.

if you
happened to collect it, and bring it in...looks like a prepupal sphinx caterpillar, one of these.. you could place it between a couple layers of paper towels and see if it makes it. I don't see any serious injury on it so it could of just gotten lost trying to dig in.
