Is this a locust? - Tremex columba - Female
Lock Haven, Clinton County, Pennsylvania, USA
September 10, 2013
Size: 1.5 - 2 inches
Possibly a locust?? But I couldn't find one matching it's coloring. It was 1.5 to 2 inches long. Picture was taken at around 4:30pm EST on 9/10/2013... it was approximately 90 degree Fahrenheit outside. Also, what is that tube coming out of the back of it??

Moved from ID Request.

Siricidae
Tremex columba, a woodwasp or horntail. Larvae bore in wood.

Pigeon Tremex…
The tube coming out of the back is this female's ovipositor (egg tube).

See reference here.

Thank You! I have been pouri
Thank You! I have been pouring over photos and trying to figure this thing out. The coloring kept throwing me off.. the shape of the head.. the smooth legs. I was at a lost.

I really appreciate it!
