Intriguing species
based on the ideas floating around here. Mark, did you save this specimen for further examination? I'm sure an expert would find it rather easy to identify once the specimen is seen under scope.

 
Didn't save
This beetle gave me this brief view before scurrying off quickly for good. Also I just checked my archives for another angle, but unfortunately this is it.

Pterostichus. How about Subgenus Cylindrocharis?
could've been a pretty sweet one too, given the location.

nice but teneral pterostichine
pronotum crushed when still soft :/

 
Harpalus erraticus is a contender.
of which adults pass through a lengthy red teneral stage. Wish image was more revealing. I have not seen teneral Pterostichus look this red.

 
the eyes look strange
but maybe its just the angle..
