Incredible White Light Fly (Robber Fly?) - Nicocles aemulator - Male
Hwy. 1, north of Cambria, San Luis Obispo County, California, USA

This amazing fly was hovering near what we guessed was a female in an apparent display flight, then the two flew away together into the brush. I'm putting them up together since they seemed to be associated. Thanks in advance for any ID help with these.

Nice series of male engaging perching female in courtship.

(Compare to Nicocles dives re. width of silvery bands on male abdomen...)
