Incredible White Light Fly (Robber Fly?) - Nicocles aemulator - male

Incredible White Light Fly (Robber Fly?) - Nicocles aemulator - Male
Hwy. 1, north of Cambria, San Luis Obispo County, California, USA
August 31, 2013
This amazing fly was hovering near what we guessed was a female in an apparent display flight, then the two flew away together into the brush. I'm putting them up together since they seemed to be associated. Thanks in advance for any ID help with these.

Nicocles aemulator.
Nice series of male engaging perching female in courtship.

(Compare to Nicocles dives re. width of silvery bands on male abdomen...)

Beautiful shots
of a Nicocles species. CA has 9 of them. Dr. Fisher may know which species.
