Unknown Spider - Araneus thaddeus - male

Unknown Spider - Araneus thaddeus - Male
Lafayette, Sussex County, New Jersey, USA
September 11, 2013
Came to visit (and eat) while photographing moths. Since there are plenty of cobweb spiders inside and out right now, I am thinking it's a male cobweb.

Moved from Araneus.

We have been thinking that these are the males of
Araneus thaddeus, but haven't completely confirmed that. Here is a series of images we took of the female and how she lives if that helps you look around.

Thanks. That does help. I went out first thing to look on the porch but no luck. We had heavy rain/storms move through last night so everyone was hiding this morning. I had to go to work. I will look under the porch later. I do remember a female that was yellow curled up under the porch last fall. I don't remember the webbing being like that though. I will check around other parts of the house as well. If I still have no luck, I will put the lights up to try to get the spiders to come out from behind the shutters, door frame and siding.

Moved from ID Request. Yes, please photograph the females in the area and can you leave a comment under this image with a thumbnail to the new images if you can get any? Thanks.

No luck finding the target spider after many days and nights of looking. I found between 50-75 spiders all total around the exterior of the house, the surrounding property and under the porch. Nursery, funnel, sheet, house, cellar, perhaps other cobweb and a few others I am not sure about but nothing that looked anything like the photo.
I put the female orbs and other interesting finds here:

I will continue the search until it gets too cold. The unknown male has moved on. I have not been able to relocate it day or night and I have had the moth lights set up twice since then. That evening the temps were above normal and it hasn't been quite that warm in the evening since.

We think it is actually a male orb weaver
in the genus Araneus, but we have never quite nailed it down. Are there female orb weavers around? We have bounced images of this guy around to several different species pages as we have tried to pin it down. It would be great to attach it to a female with certainty.

There is a marbled in my kitchen and an unknown on my back door which i haven't been able to a clean shot of. I will check around the porch the morning.
