Two species. A Woodland Skipper, male
is the initial butterfly. See http://butterfliesofamerica.com/imagehtmls/Hesperiinae/Ochlodes_s._sylvanoides_USA_CALIFORNIA_Sonoma_Co._Nagasawa_Park_Santa_Rosa_15-IX-2010_2_i.htm

The other specimen is a male Fiery skipper. I will delink for archiving.

That's a pretty skipper (butterfly)
A male Fiery Skipper (Hylephila phyleus) based on the black patterns on the upperside of the forewing I think.

Fiery Skipper
Dory, thanks for your assistance. I am at my son's house in San Francisco. I come here at least once a year. Been doing that for years but this is the first time I have seen the fiery skippers in his yard. Got several of them there now. I appreciate your help.
