Philaronia canadensis - female

Philaronia canadensis - Female
Honey Harbor, Ontario, Canada
June 8, 1932
This genus does not have the raised wing veins of Philaenus; instead, the veins are dark and branch towards the edges of the wings. The wings are covered with pale hairs that stand out against the dark background, whereas the hairs of Philaenus are not so prominent, being transparent and taking on the underlying colors. The antennal ledge (above the base of the antenna) of Philaronia is also contrastingly redder than the rest of the face, which in males is yellow but in females is dark. (K.G.A. Hamilton)
