Ergates spiculatus? Pine sawyer beetle and unknown ant - Trichocnemis spiculatus

Size: 40 mm
I found the large beetle (40mm) upside down struggling on my sundeck in Douglas fir-forested area on Stoney Hill, near Maple Bay, BC. The ant was clinging to the beetle's abdomen even when I righted the beetle.
