corylifoliella?
This is probably S. corylifoliella or the introduced European S. microtheriella. They are hard to tell apart.

couldn't find anything online about the current range of S. microtheriella in the U.S. Do you know where I might find that info?

S. microtheriella
Erik has found this species in both eastern and western US, but nothing has been published about this yet. I believe in the east it has only been found in New England so far, but I don't think anyone has really looked in Maryland at this point. See the map on
