Wolf Spider Near Burrow - Hogna carolinensis - male

Wolf Spider Near Burrow - Hogna carolinensis - Male
Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas, USA
September 17, 2013
Size: 21mm in body length
Sub adult male Hogna carolinensis sitting outside his burrow after a heavy rainstorm. This was taken at my high school. He should be one molt away from becoming adult.

Moved
Moved from ID Request. It's a beauty. Any chance you can get a ventral?

If you want...
...I can flush him out but I never collected him. I know of his burrow so we can check it again but I would rather just leave him be. The heavy rains lately have stressed them out enough with burrow flooding...:)

If you're confident of the species
ID then don't worry about it. I just always like to have the ventral to confirm ID when possible.

Yes.
I'm 99% sure on the ID. There aren't too many species of wolf spiders here aside from H. carolinensis that have the rusty chelicerae and a completely jet black ventral on the abdomen. Thanks for your concern though, I know it is hard with these sometimes.
