Twice-stabbed Lady beetle ? - Axion plagiatum

Twice-stabbed Lady beetle ? - Axion plagiatum
Sunol , Sunol Regional Park, Alameda County, California, USA
September 22, 2013
Size: 1/4"
I found these 2 Lady beetles on a Valley Oak tree while looking for galls . Their shells were oily and very shiny so it was hard to get a good photo of . I found a larva nearby to help with i.d.

Axion plagiatum
This species is related to the Twice-stabbed Lady Beetle - they're in the same subfamily, Chilocorinae. The placement and size of the red markings, so close to the front of the body, and the extremely convex domed shape are typical of A. plagiatum.

The larval photo is what really clinches the ID for me - the number of spines and the markings on the pronotum are also typical of Axion rather than Chilocorus. (More comments on the larval photo.)

I unlinked your images...

I've cross referenced the adults and the larva with thumbnails in the Remarks section.
