Blaste quieta - male

Blaste quieta - Male
Lenexa, Johnson County, Kansas, USA
September 9, 2013
Came to MVL/blacklight setup in a woodland area by a tall grass prairie remnant.
Det. by Diane Young

excellent --thanks, ladies
having photos of voucher specimens in the guide is priceless

The trick in identifying Blaste males...
is to get a good look at the hypandrium. This requires placing the specimen in fine white washed sand in alcohol and tilting the specimen until the prongs on the distal end are clearly visible (takes some practice and occasionally some sailor language). This one has "moderately long blunt tipped median prong flanked on each side by lateral lobes that project outward. See Fig. 399 (1).

Oh, my goodness...
Diane...I had no idea what it took to ID! Impressive!
