Hypochilus coylei - Female
Sugarloaf Mountain (abuts Chimney Rock), Rutherford County, North Carolina, USA
July 25, 2006
Size: 3.5 inches
Based on dot maps from several papers, I've been calling this Hypochilus coylei. Need to get some specimens to Fred Coyle to be sure. Though this is the only lampshade known in the Hickory Nut Gorge area (near Lake Lure)

You can add it to species.
As I mentioned earlier, H. coylei is the only one found in the Hickory Nut Gorge area. H. sheari is found further north (in Madison County). H. pococki is found further west, and with a MUCH wider distribution. I hope to add an image of that species later. The difficulty with this genus is that they are basically impossible to tell apart, short of examining the male genitalia, or knowing the locale.

Done. Just wasn't sure when you mentioned sending to Fred Coyle for verification.
Really hope to see some images of H. pococki as well! Thanks again and (if you don't know) Spiders of NA has a good info page on the family.
