Green Caterpillar

Green Caterpillar
Horseshoe Lake State Park, Monroe County, Illinois, USA
September 13, 2013
Size: approx. 2"
This caterpillar was out in broad daylight with some overcast periods. I don't know the plant it is in, but this plant had lots of burs (that's what I am calling them) that had not turned brown yet? The plant had large leaves as big as my hand which are not visible in this photo. I'll go look for better photos of the leaves. This caterpillar was right in the middle of the burs. I thought maybe this was the caterpillar of the Corn Earworm. It was in the same field as the other two caterpillars that John and Jane Balaban have helped me ID. You can just make out the head in this photo.

Another caterpillar that looks the same
I have photos of another caterpillar that is on Bidens that looks the same as this one. It's not the same individual, but all the other information is the same. I will add photos that might add in ID'ing them.

Yes...that's the plant, but...
I will add two more photos of it to be sure.
