Maybe Homoeosoma electellum
aka the "sunflower moth" but Powell & Opler say that they can be found on other composites as well. Looks just like the photo here and here

BugGuide doesn't have any Homoeosoma cats though, so nice find!

That's pretty much how I find all of my bugs, anyway!

 
That got me laughing!
A friend, new to bugs, is in hot pursuit of odes. We go to particular places to see and shoot particular dragonflies and, more often than not, completely strike out. I am rethinking this!

Looks like a datana species, but I'm not sure.
