Horsehair Worm - Gordius robustus

Horsehair Worm - Gordius robustus
Slayton, Murray County, Minnesota, USA
August 20, 2006
Size: 22.8cm
My friends at the veterinary clinic called me to come see a worm of theirs'. It's a Horsehair worm, almost definately Gordius robustus given the size, host, and locality. Was apparently inside the cricket for sometime, they had seen it before, and when the cricket landed in a water dish, it died and the worm tried to escape. How something 22cm long, yes, that's centimeters, could fit into something only 2cm long is beyond me. One for the bugs but not really bugs section!

wow!

Wow
Wow.
