Tiny dark jumper - Phidippus

Tiny dark jumper - Phidippus
Herndon, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
October 27, 2006
Size: 2mm
I almost ran into this tiny black speck hanging from a skylight in my house - glad I happened to be focusing at this closer distance! Does anyone know what kind of jumper it is? And what gender? It looks like a female to me, but it's hard to tell when they're so tiny! I found another today in a room down the hall from where this one was found, same size and on the ceiling. I put them both outside - luckily for them it's a sunny day, almost warm.

A
3rd instar (most likely) Phidippus.

Thank you!
Can you know which, or is there too much possibility for change as it grows up?

Yes
you're right. I wish there was a way to tell at that size. There are a few exceptions, though.
