I think
this is American Copper Lycaena phlaeas, but Bronze Copper (Lycaena hyllus) is also in your area.

It does look a lot like your American Copper caterpillar photo. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be many Copper caterpillar pictures in the guide, though this one does not match the single Bronze Copper caterpillar pic very well, at least in my non-expert opinion.

I will move it to the Lycaena genus page for now...

Thanks again, I really had no idea what type of caterpillar this was and had been thinking something in the slug moth range.
