Skipper ID Needed - Please - Atalopedes campestris - Male
Snyder, Morgan County, Colorado, USA
October 6, 2013
Size: small skipper
I think it is a Sachem, aka, Atalopedes campestris, but with skippers it is sometimes hard to tell. Several were feeding on Black Oil Sunflower that were planted for the birds, bees, butterflies, flies, wasps, etc. They also like marigolds. I'd really like to know the exact ID so I can plant the host species if it a different type of skipper, as there surely are plenty of host plants for the Sachem in this area. Mind you, we recently had a mild freeze and the "local" pollinators have been congregating on our property for the still abundant nectar sources.

Yes, a male Sachem
Note large stigma above. Host plants are grasses.

Male Sachem
Yes, I did note the prominent stigma. Thank You!
