Carolina wolf spider - Hogna carolinensis

Carolina wolf spider - Hogna carolinensis
Stroud, Lincoln County, Oklahoma, USA
October 9, 2013
I thought this spider was a tarantula when I saw it on the road today. I'm glad I jumped out to check it because it was the largest wolf spider I've ever seen. I'd appreciate any assistance on an ID. Sorry I don't have a ventral photo on this one. I was trying to keep from getting run over by large trucks.

Moved
Moved from Spiders.
This is our best guess at this time. Tentatively placed without a ventral though.

Moved
Moved from ID Request. I think Jimmy is likely correct, but let's let Laura move these when she has time.

Hogna carolinensis
The Carolina wolf spider. Judging from the size and lack of bulbous pedipalps, I would say this is a female. A ventral would solidify the ID but the drabber dorsal coloration points to H. carolinensis.

Thank you, Jimmy!
