Summer Fishfly - Chauliodes pectinicornis

Summer Fishfly - Chauliodes pectinicornis
Durham County, North Carolina, USA
July 27, 2004
Found on a lighted wall. This is Chauliodes pectinicornis, which Brimley (1) lists as flying May-August in North Carolina. (The other species, rastricornis, is listed as flying March-May in the same area.) Also, key in Megaloptera of Florida (2) suggests C. pectinicornis. Light yellow markings on dark background of head and pronotum are supposed to be the basis. Both sexes have pectinate antennae in this species.
