Question regarding this old E.confusia post

Hi.
Do you know what the two things are that appear to be latched onto this springtails antennae? Are those phonetic mites by chance? Do springtails carry those? 🤔

IMHO

these are faecal pellets.
BTW it is not 'phonetic' but 'phoretic'.
Collembola may carry phoretic mites, indeed.

Entomobrya confusa

Hi Jim. This species has a uniform background colour usually with darkened posterior margins of the thoracic and first 3 abdominal segments. Might be confused (pun intended) with E. sinelloides in which ALL abdominal segments have a dark posterior margin.
Compare with the picture of E. sinelloides made by Tom.

Entomobryidae

Hi Jim. Note the very long fourth abdominal segment, typical for Entomobryidae. BTW, in Entomobryomorpha, the first thoracic segment cannot be seen from dorsal view. Therefore, start counting abdominal segments from the narrow third visible segment.
