Keroplatidae - Predatory Fungus Gnat?
I can't believe this is possible but it looks like the larva images in Keroplatidae and Paul Beuk mentions here that they can reach an inch!

Wow!
That looks and sounds like that is it. I can't believe that the larvae of fungus gnats get that large! Very cool!

Maybe
I wonder if it could be a deer fly larvae?? Was it near water, and do you have an idea of size? I recently photographed a horse fly larvae that had the same type of translucent look to it.

Big
I don't remember how big but you might use the rove beetle larva at lower left, ID'd to tribe here, as a yard stick. If the big larva is 9 times longer and the rove beetle is 3mm, then the big larva would be 27mm. I doubt it was smaller and it could have been a lot bigger.

There is water not far away.
