Ground Beetle - Harpalus - Male

Size: 15mm
Found mating at night in a grassy area. I had no camera so I gathered the pair for photos. This smaller one was on top so I am assuming that this is the male.

I still have it, if I need to try and get any more shots. I hope to get pictures of the female tomorrow. It's raining right now and I do not have a good flash for my camera yet so I can't photograph her today.

Harpalus (Pseudoophonus) sp.
near pensylvanicus, but South Carolina is an area where H. texanus can also occur, and unfortunately they cannot be distinguished externally.
