Moved from Treehoppers.

Agallia quadripunctata
a very young nymph, but with the characteristic earlike lobes on the head

Incredible...
... how it looks like a Membracid! The long, tubular, tip of the abdomen, the host (oak instead of a herbaceous plant, the usual food of A. quadripunctata) and the behavior (there was a small colony of a dozen of these nymphs tended by ants). Thanks Andy!

Spikes on back
The spikes on the back also make me think it's Membracidae.

Microcentrus
Andy Hamilton based his identification on the « characteristic earlike lobes on the head ». At that time, I didn't find any Membracidae with these head lobes. I searched again today and I found this picture . Now, it fits my 2013 observation! There was a colony of these nymphs on oak, one of the hosts of Microcentrus sp. Thanks!
