Specific epithet in honor of Don
MacNeill (1925-2006) who collected some of the first specimens.
Range
Southern Sierra Nevada Mountains above 12,000'.

Holotype male: near Mono Pass 12,000', Inyo County, California (C.D. MacNeill, August 11, 1958).
Habitat
Confined to the arctic-alpine zone above the tree line.

Adults observed in association with
Pacific hulsea (
Hulsea algida).

Has only been collected in odd-numbered years.
