Bagworm Moth -
Dahlica triquetrella
Topsham, Orange County, Vermont, USA
October 31, 2006
Size: 7mm
This encased larva was crawling up the trunk of a spruce tree. It looks like a caddisfly, but I thought they were all aquatic.

Thanks Tony
It looked really odd seeing this insect in it's case moving up the tree. I wasn't thinking moth, but a species of bagworm makes perfect sense.
