ant nest inquiline - Limulodes

ant nest inquiline - Limulodes
San Marcos, Hays County, Texas, USA
October 26, 2013
Size: 1.2 mm
I found this insect in a nest of native ants. I'm in the process of finding out what species of ant it was. I am going to make a wild guess and say it could be a beetle but I'm not sure. I have the specimen in alcohol. I can't wait to find out more!

Anacyptus sp. Probably testaceous. I would love to have access to a specimen for my phylogeny. Do you have any that you could possibly send, preferably in EtOH?

So sorry, about the mistake,
So sorry, about the mistake, this is Limulodes, a ptiliid. I should have been more careful with my ID.

thanks... makes sense
i' too, was too hasty assuming its aleocharine affiliation

Wait, phylogeny work....
OK I'll send it to you. I can find another one for Ed. I'll also send you a sampling of the ants from that nest. I'd appreciate an ID on those too. Please email me you address and I'll get the specimens off to you.

Unless Ed Riley at A&M wants it
you have 2nd dibs. I may find more as I'm looking for a possible psocid inquiline.

fabulous bug... an aleocharine, actually
many myrmecophilous taxa in several aleo~ lineages assume this wide teardropy habitus; hope it's a new genus for the guide!
