Pale Crane Fly - Tipula ultima
Near Ruraldale, Upshur County, West Virginia, USA
October 16, 2006
This Crane Fly was attracted to lights. Not many insects showed up on this cool mid-October night. A lone green hopper kept vigil with the fly.

Genus Tipula? Subgenus Platytipula, perhaps? ID help will be appreciated. And is it possible to know the sex without seeing the abdomen?
