All couplet features can`t be
All couplet features can`t be seen in a picture but following the Polistes key with visible features, I thought this was Polistes fuscatus because:-
1) Flagellum not almost entirely orange.
2) Metasomal segment 1 wide.
3) Eyes bare
4) 7 metasomal segments ( male )
5) Anterior and ventral surfaces of flagellum not concolorous.
6) Flagellomeres 8-10 dark brown.
7) Flagellomeres 1-5 anterior surface orange-red contrasting with dark brown apical flagellomeres.
Although some southern Polistes were not in the key, the flagellum was obviously different and they may not be found in Nebraska.

A good match Ken. If the image you posted is Polistes fuscatus, which I think it is, then this almost certainly is too.
