P. princeps - Phidippus princeps - male

P. princeps - Phidippus princeps - Male
Franklin County, Ohio, USA
Last four stages of a single male Phidippus princeps. Youngest on the left, adult on the right. The four photos combined here are not on the same scale, so this image should not be used as a size comparison.

He was found resting inside a wild carrot umbel, collected, and first photographed on 8/6, and then raised in captivity afterward. All other dates shown on each image represent the date of each corresponding molt to that stage. I chose to leave the dates intact because their timing accurately reflected what I saw in the wild this year.

Date summary:
08/06/2006 - Found
08/13/2006 - antepenultimate
09/14/2006 - penultimate (subadult)
10/15/2006 - adult

The changes are so drastic, it's hard to believe they are all the same specimen.

Excellent
Series Jay. Really fine.

Remarkable!
I'm spoiled on the permanence of beetles once they eclose and harden.
