Common under rocks in the area. The Dalles, Oregon has annual rainfall of 14 to 15 inches, while the cutoff for the classification of a desert is 10 inches or rainfall. The Dalles is situated along the south bank of the Columbia River. The millipedes measure about two inches and have a smell similar to the smaller backyard julids I often see in my garden. The smell is very similar, but slightly fainter.
