Greenbottle Fly on Stinkhorn Mushroom - Lucilia

Greenbottle Fly on Stinkhorn Mushroom - Lucilia
Durham County, North Carolina, USA
September 21, 2004
A Greenbottle fly, Lucilia species, on an Eastern Stinkhorn Mushroom, Phallus ravenelii (Thanks to Eric Eaton for identification of fly.)

Whole mushroom, with its fly associates, mostly Flat-footed Flies, Platypezidae:

Blow fly
The metallic green job is a "greenbottle" blow fly, Lucilia sp. What an amazing diversity of flies on these mushrooms!

Thanks, will move
Great, thanks.
