Wavy-Lined Emerald Larva - Synchlora aerata

Wavy-Lined Emerald Larva - Synchlora aerata
Town of Baileys Harbor, Hidden Corners Sanctuary, Door County, Wisconsin, USA
June 15, 2006
Found the strangest-looking larva I've ever seen. Decided it had to be the Camouflaged Looper. It was eating Western Ironweed (Vernonia fasciculata), which grows around our pond. It was difficult to photograph because it was always slightly swaying from side-to-side. On June 26, 2006 it started to form a thin. silky cocoon over itself. Adult eclosed July 7, 2006.
