unidentified Hoverfly 1 - Eupeodes
Scott County, Indiana, USA

Size: about 14 mm
Any ideas regarding the genus and species? This is slightly larger than most species within genus Toxomerus, but still much smaller than those within genus Eristalis.

Moved from Syrphid Flies.

Ron's ID is good here - black (and grooved) border on the abdomen combined with straight R4+5 vein indicates Eupeodes. Markings are not separate and curved, so subgenus Metasyrphus rather than Eupeodes (Eupeodes) volucris.

Tribe Syrphini
Perhaps Euopedes, but that looks a bit iffy.
