Unknown Orthoptera? - Phrynotettix robustus

Unknown Orthoptera? - Phrynotettix robustus
n. of Big Bend National Park, Brewster County, Texas, USA
November 12, 2013
Looking to identify this insect for a friend in Austin, Texas.
Thanks in advance!

That location makes sense
These overwinter as nymphs and mature around February / March. Some apparently live a long time, and are still hopping around as adults the following autumn.

Updated Location
Thanks for the help and warm welcome!
From James, "(image)Shot just to east of the north entrance of Big Bend National Park. Coahuilan desert terrain".

a nymph of a Toad Lubber Grasshopper - Phrynotettix robustus
I removed the location "Austin" from the data section, since I'm pretty sure this was not taken in that area. If you know the location for sure, and the date, it would be good to add it. It should have been somewhere much further west. Perhaps your friend took a trip to the Big Bend area or Guadalupe Mountains?

Moved from Grasshoppers, Crickets, Katydids.

Please click on "edit"...
...and fill in the date field with the date this was seen by your friend.

Thanks--and welcome to BugGuide!
