Moth-D - Ceratodalia gueneata

Moth-D - Ceratodalia gueneata
Sequoia National Park, California, USA
September 12, 2013

Moved to Ceratodalia gueneata (7221)
Moved from ID Request.

Venation and pale, triangular patch on FW near costa are distinctive.
Congratulation, you have added September for California on BugGuide.

Looks like ...
Ceratodalia gueneata (7221)

BTW cropping and orientation really make ID easier :)

Moth
Definitely a moth. There are a few dozen species of Geometrid moths (mostly found out west) that always hold their wings upright like this. The upperside is actually pretty dull on most of these, so this view is the best to get an ID. I'm from the east coast, so I'm not familiar enough with these to ID it to species, but I think an expert from the West should be able to give you a name for this one pretty easily...

Is this not a
Butterfly? Wings upright together!
