Nest - Dolichovespula

Nest - Dolichovespula
Oakdale, Washington County, Minnesota, USA
November 14, 2013
Size: 1 foot or so high
What kind of nest?

Suburb east of Minneapolis/St. Paul, higher ground in deciduous swamp. About 10 to 15 feet high in cottonwood or aspen. I'm 99 percent sure the nest was built this year. There's another about 50 feet away with the bottom ripped. That may have been an older nest although I don't remember seeing it before.

A Dolichovespula nest
Almost certainly from the bald faced hornet, Dolichovespula maculata

a wasp of some sort
Bald-faced hornets make something similar in shape and size
