Synonyms and other taxonomic changes
Gymnomyzidae is an older name for Ephydridae, but fell out of use. It was reestablished as a subfamily name in 1992. The genus name Gymnomyza is no longer used because it is considered a synonym of Mosillus.
Identification
Normally with presutural dorsocentral bristles absent, prescutellar acrostichals small and close together, and reclinate froto-orbital bristle in front of proclinate.
