"The subfamily Discomyzinae is distinguished from other subfamilies by the following combination of characters: Fronto-orbital setae reclinate and/or proclinate; reclinate fronto-orbital seta usually inserted behind larger, proclinate fronto-orbital seta; medial facial area and ventral facial margin without setae; facial setae inserted in more or less vertical series, parallel with parafacial; subcranial cavity small to large. Prescutellar acrostichal setae large (subequal to posterior dorsocentral seta), inserted widely apart between setae subequal to that between either prescutellar and the posterior dorsocentral seta on the same side) and usually inserted anterior of intra-alar seta; presutural or sutural dorsocentral seta inconspicuous or absent." Food
Varied. Discomyza breeds in snails. Clanoneurum mines leaves.
